Abstract:

Finite-time blowup behaviors appear in several physical realizations. These range from the pinch-off occurring when a fluid neck breaks to the gravitational collapse of a star into a black hole. I will present a study on the dynamics of the finite-time blowup solutions of a parabolic-elliptic system of partial differential equations. The goal is to understand how the system converges to a self-similar profile. The analysis of this relatively simple system should help us in developing techniques and intuition to approach other problems presenting finite- time singularities.
