In this talk I shall introduce models of tumors with populations of cells that are either proliferating or quiescent. The mathematical description is that of a free boundary problem for a system of PDE which include elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations. The Hele-Shaw problem may be viewed as a very special case. Partial results and open problems will be described.
