Title: Iwasawa theory: Class numbers to elliptic curves
Speaker: Professor Robet Pollack

Abstract:

Over the last few years there have been many new results about the Iwasawa theory of elliptic curves at supersingular primes. In this talk, we will attempt to discuss some of these results in the context of classical Iwasawa theory. We will discuss Iwasawa's approach to studying class numbers in towers of number fields; Mazur's approach to generalizing this to elliptic curves at ordinary primes and then finally the more mysterious case of supersingular reduction.
