I will present a conjectural geometric picture for the representation theory of real Lie groups, being developed with David Nadler (U. of Chicago). We propose a bridge between Langlands' classification of irreducible representations and the realization of representations on flag varieties, passing through a real version of the geometric Langlands program. The talk will be expository (no familiarity with geometric representation theory or the Langlands program is assumed).
