Abstract:

I will discuss some aspects of the dynamics of interval maps. The need for a detailed understanding of such maps is apparent, as they appear in many building blocks of higher-dimensional dynamical systems. I will include, in particular, properties of the spectrum of Lyapunov exponents as well as geometric properties of emerging fractal sets. Here I focus on the complexity of the level sets of Lyapunov exponents by means of their Hausdorff dimension. The analysis covers a class of interval maps which includes several non-hyperbolic situations such as, for exmaple, Manneville-Pomeau-type maps.
