When an Einstein 4-manifold is conformally Kahler, the conformally related Kahler metric is automatically extremal. This observation motivates a construction of Einstein metrics which will be the main subject of this talk. In particular, I will describe some natural classification problems for compact Einstein manifolds that can be completely settled using these ideas. The talk will then conclude with a discussion of results and open problems concerning Bach-flat 4-manifolds and Poincare-Einstein metrics.
