Part 1: a general account of "enumerative invariants" obtained by counting solutions of nonlinear elliptic and examples (Gromov-Witten, Yang-Mills instantons, Seiberg-Witten).

Part 2: an outline of the application of these ideas to submanifolds and connections over manifolds of exceptional holonomy (which is still largely conjectural).
