Title: Alternating biextension of commutative unipotent groups

Let G be a commutative unipotent group in characteristic p > 0 and let B be a biextesion of G \times G. We shall associate to B a pair (A,q) where A is a finite abelian group and q a non-degenerate quadratic form with values in Q_p/Z_p. I shall discuss the class of the metric group (A,q) in the Witt ring. This result is relevant to the theory of character sheaves on unipotent groups over positive characteristic (developed by V. Drinfeld and M. Boyarchenko). I shall try to explain this connection if time permits.
