Abstract:

This is joint work with Alex Barnett. We describe a new method for numerically computing eigenfunctions and eigenvalues on starshaped domains, derived from the fast "scaling method" of Vergini and Saraceno. It is based on properties of the spectral flow of the the family of Neumann to Dirichlet operators on the boundary of the domain, which is a topic of independent interest. Our analysis suggests ways to extend this method to other boundary conditions and to non-starshaped domains.
