Abstract:

I will describe recent joint work with Daniel Grieser describing the behaviour of the small, and in particular the smallest, Dirichlet eigenvalues and eigenfunctions on triangles under collapse. The main conclusion is that the most obvious compactification of the moduli space of triangles under rigid motion, needs to be resolved before it can serve as the base of a universal space on which the eigenfunctions are conormal.
