Abstract:

In his PhD thesis, Lawvere developed a theory which generalizes several algebraic structures (such as groups, rings, group actions, modules, etc.). This lets us compare structures and find common properties between them. In this talk I am going to give a brief description of this theory, and as principal example I am going to explain the construction of Smooth Rings (rings where all smooth functions are well defined).
