Abstract:

It has long been known that symmetric monoidal categories give rise to spectra, whose zeroth space is closely related to the classifying space of the category. In particular, Picard groupoids give rise to spectra with only 2 nontrivial homotopy groups. On the other hand, Bullejos-Carrasco-Cegarra develop a cohomology for spaces with coefficients in a Picard groupoid, proving that this is represented by the associated spectrum. One can extend the BCC construction to define cohomology groupoids, and ask a similar representability question. In this talk we will explain precisely how to ask this question, and how to answer it. This is joint work with Niles Johnson.
