Yamabe Lecture

Title: Canonical metrics on singular spaces
Speaker: Rafe Mazzeo
Speaker Info: Stanford
Brief Description:
Special Note: First Yamabe Lecture
Abstract:

There are many motivations, both analytic and geometric, for studying curvature equations on singular spaces. I will discuss some of the problems in this field and then discuss two recent results, the first about the Yamabe problem on general compact smoothly stratified spaces and the second about the existence and nature of K\"ahler-Einstein metrics which are bent along divisors. I hope to discuss enough of the background and techniques involved to give a good idea of what is possible with current methodology.
