Abstract:

Categories enriched in symmetric monoidal categories such as spectra turn up in various places in algebraic topology. Unfortunately these can be difficult to work with in a homotopically meaningful way. For many purposes it would be better to instead use less rigid structures, where composition is only associative up to coherent homotopy, but so far such objects have only been defined in special cases. I will describe a general theory of weak or homotopy-coherent enrichment, built using Lurie's work on infinity-operads, and discuss some applications in algebraic topology and higher category theory. This is joint work with David Gepner.
