Title: Numerical Patterns and Chaos (Public Lecture)
Speaker: Laura DeMarco
Speaker Info: Northwestern University

Abstract:

The study of Dynamical Systems is an active piece of modern mathematical research. It began with questions about the solar system and planetary motion, more than 100 years ago. Today it touches on topics ranging from the purest of pure mathematics (involving abstract geometries or the distribution of numbers) to the most applicable of applied mathematics (studying bone growth or the stability of an airplane in the sky). I will describe some examples from my own research about prime numbers and chaotic dynamical systems.

This presentation is intended for a general audience. No mathematical experience necessary. It is free and open to the public.
