The main goal of this talk is to explain the recent joint work with Xiuxiong Chen and Simon Donaldson which establishes the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics on a K-stable Fano manifold (a conjecture going back to Yau). We will explain the unfamiliar terms, and time permitting outline the proof and discuss relation with moduli theory of Fano manifolds.
