Abstract:
I will discuss relations between the dynamics of complex rational functions and the arithmetic of elliptic curves. My goal is to present some new work (in progress) that reproves/generalizes a 1959 result of Lang and Neron about rational points on elliptic curves over function fields. In this talk, I will not assume any familiarity with arithmetic geometry, building only on basic concepts from dynamics and complex analysis.Date: Tuesday, October 14, 2014
