Abstract:

Let X be a projective variety, and B a homology class. How many algebraic curves of class B does X contain? In this talk, I'll address this question using Gromov-Witten invariants, and discuss how mirror symmetry can be used to compute the answer. Time permitting, I'll describe a specific example involving quintic 3-folds.
