Title: Cobordism groups and homotopy groups of Thom spaces

Cobordism is a fundamental equivalence relation on the class of n-dimensional compact manifolds. Up to this equivalence relation,n-dimensional smooth compact manifolds form a group under disjoint unions. This group turns out to be isomorphic to the nth homotopy group of the Thom space of a certain bundle. The latter group is computable and gives an answer to the classification of n dimensional smooth compact manifolds up to cobordism.Date: Friday, February 27, 2015
This talk will start from the definition of cobordism and Thom spaces and give the construction of the isomorphism between cobordism groups and homotopy groups of Thom spaces.
