Beilinson's functor provides a purely algebraic way to glue either perverse sheaves or holonomic D-modules. In this talk, I will give a brief description of constructions of near-by cycles and vanishing cycles for holonomic D-modules using b-functions and pro-ind categories following Beilinson's recipe. After that, I will also mention how to construct the gluing functor.
