It is a theorem of Goerss, Hopkins, and Miller that Morava E-theory is an E_\infty ring spectrum in an essentially unique way. One consequence of this result is that the E-cohomology of any space admits power operations. We will describe recent efforts with Barthel, Branter, and Schlank that build on work with Barthel to describe these operations in terms of the GL_n(Q_p)-action on the Drinfeld ring at infinite level.
