Abstract:

Beilinson's conjectures give certain mysterious predictions on special values of L-functions. As the usual formulation of the conjectures involves some scary objects like higher algebraic K-theory, mixed motives, motivic cohomology, Deligne-Beilinson cohomology, and Beilinson regulators, they might look pretty inaccessible. The aim of the talk is to introduce some of the main ideas of the conjectures in as concrete and accessible a way as possible by making simplifying assumptions, relying on analogies, and focusing on basic examples.
