Abstract:

Several natural phenomena are modeled by nonlinear wave equations, and properties of the medium where the waves propagate are encoded by the coefficients of the equation. One wants to understand properties of the solutions of such equations, and vice versa, in the inverse problem, one wants to obtain information about the coefficients of a wave equation from properties of its solutions. In this talk I will discuss applications of nonlinear geometric optics to the analysis of one such problem. This is joint work with Plamen Stefanov.
