TItle: The new, old-fashioned categorical algebra approach to generalized operads. Abstract: One way of looking at generalized opeads is through a categorical perspective. This can be rephrased in terms of plethysm monoids. This makes the theory parallel to the theory of modules over monoids. In retrospect this is the way that PROPs and algebras over them were originally formulated. We will introduce these concepts and show how to connect to the classical theory and to newer constructions including a Baez-Dolan type plus construction.
