Abstract:

Mutsumi Saito, Nobuki Takayama and I are currently writing a monograph with the above title. Its subject is the use of Gröbner bases for D-modules and applications to constructing multidimensional hypergeometric series in the sense of Gel'fand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky (GKZ). The aim of this lecture is to report on our project. Topics to be discussed include the Gröbner fan of a D-ideal, fake indicial ideals, and inequalities relating the holonomic rank of a GKZ-system and the degree of the underlying toric variety.
