Printer Etiquette

The public printers in the mathematics department are shared resources. It is important that you do your part in maintaining their functionality.

A Short Guide to Printing in the Math Department (Lunt Hall)

Basically, there are 4 public printers in the department connected to the Math network in Lunt Hall (for printing in Locy Hall see below). They are

How to add a department printer to your machine

This should work for a machine in the department as well as a laptop connected to the Northwestern wireless network.

In order to access the most advanced options of a printer download and install the appropriate printer driver (search for it online), and go to add a printer. Follow the instructions of your machine and OS to complete the process. On Windows on settings click "add a new printer". If it can 't be found, click "The printer that I want isn't listed", "add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname", Device type: TCP/IP Device, Hostname of IP addres: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the printer), and follow the instructions to install the driver. Below there a couple of screenshot of how it looks the configuration for lj2 (ip: 129.105.81.88) on a Windows 10 machine.

lj2 configuration 1   lj2 configuration 2

For Macs the process is similar. Pick protocol IPP.

The IPs for our printers are as follows:

ljb: 129.105.81.93
lj2: 129.105.81.88
lj3: 129.105.81.92
copier: 129.105.81.87

For the copier (the networked Ricoh copier machine) download the appropriate driver from the Ricoh site. Make sure to dowload the driver for your OS (Windows or MacOS). For Windows the PCL 6 Driver is recommended.

Ricoh driver

For MacOS get the PPD Installer. For Linux, connect your machine to a network jack with an Ethernet cable in Lunt, go to Settings > Printers, and most likely the Ricoh printer will show up automatically.

Printing in Locy Hall - Room 209

Note: if these instructions do not work as expected please contact your system administrator for help.

There is a copier/scanner/printer Konica Bizhub 458e in Locy 209.

First, if possible connect your computer to a network jack using an Ethernet cable. That typically works better than using a wireless connection.

Next, some tips on how to setup printing the copier from your computer or device.

This should work for Macs: In the configuration process select the KONICA MINOLTA BIZHUB 458E from the menu, Kind: Bonjour.

Alternatively, click IP, address 129.105.143.134, Protocol: JetDirect. In options, leave Paper Source Unit, Finisher, Punch Unit to their default values (None).

For Windows, first download and install the driver for Konica Minolta BizHub 458e - you should be able to get it here. Search for "bizhub 458e." After the driver is installed go to settings, then "add a printer." If you don't see the printer listed (or you see too many printers listed) click the "The printer I want isn't listed" link. Then, select "Add a printer using an IP address or host name," In the next screen, select "IPP Device" for Device type. Next, enter the following IP address in the appropriate field: 129.105.143.134. Then click "Have Disk", navigate to the driver, and select the printer model. If you do not have a driver, or tried installing it unsuccessfully, then setup the copier as a PS printer (the printer interface will offer fewer options when printing than when using a driver, but it should still work). When done click the "Print a Test page" button to make sure that the installation was successful.

There is also an HP LaserJet Pro M404dn printer in room 209. In the configuration process select JetDirect, and IP = 129.105.143.135.
