Abstract:

Cavity solitons are a special kind of spatial solitons which arise in a dissipative environment. They can be written and erased in arbitrary locations in the section of broad area radiation beams. Their positions and their motion can be appropriately controlled. Such features make them very interesting for possible applications to information processing. The final part of the talk will focus on the experimental observation of cavity solitons in semiconductor microcavities, recently published in Nature.
