Abstract:

The 1D Burgers equation is the simplest quasi-linear equation which typically displays discontinuities. Therefore, in the case of random forcing, the invariant measure is concentrated on the space of discontinuous functions. Its construction reveals new remarkable connections with the theory of hyperbolic dynamical systems. I am planning to describe the basic facts here and outline some results discussed in the physics literature.
