Abstract:

A free boundary problem for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations will be discussed. The equations of state have nonlinear dependence upon the temperature for the real flow unlike the linear dependence for the perfect flow. The flow starts in a finite domain but expands freely on the both sides as time evolves. The global existence of smooth solution is established for general large initial data. It is shown that the free boundaries expand at a finite rate. The behavior of the solution near the interface is obtained.
