Abstract:

The purpose of this talk is to describe a new construction of the spectrum of topological modular forms, using the language of derived algebraic geometry. After outlining the ``classical'' theory of elliptic cohomology, I will explain what is derived algebraic geometry, and how elliptic cohomology fits into the framework that it provides. If time permits, I will apply these ideas to give a construction of equivariant elliptic cohomology.
