Title: Elliptic Cohomology
Speaker: Professor Jacob Lurie
Speaker Info: Harvard University
Brief Description:
Special Note:
Abstract:

This talk is an introduction to the theory of elliptic cohomology from the perspective of algebraic topology. I'll begin by describing Quillen's work on the relationship between cohomology theories and formal groups, and explain how this leads naturally to the subject of elliptic cohomology: that is, cohomology theories associated to elliptic curves. I will conclude with a discussion of the "topological Witten genus" and the (conjectural) relationship with mathematical physics.
