Abstract:
An important conjecture concerning Black Holes in General Relativity asserts that, under reasonable assumptions, any stationary, asymptotically flat solution of the Einstein vacuum equations must be isometric to the well known Kerr solution. The conjecture has been settled in the case of real analytic space-times but has been wide opened in the more realistic smooth regime.Date: Friday, November 16, 2007Recently, in collaboration with A. Ionescu, we have developed a new strategy to settle the conjecture based on the Mars-Simon tensor and geometric Carleman type estimates.
