Abstract:

This lecture is concerned with reaction-diffusion equations in general non homogeneous media. I will present extended notions of traveling fronts in general settings and discuss some of their properties. Even for the homogeneous equations, an exterior domain is a case where classical traveling waves do not exist. I will describe a construction of generalized waves for bistable reaction-diffusion equations passing an obstacle. It involves some new Liouville type results for associated elliptic problems. This presentation reports on recent joint works with F. Hamel and with F. Hamel and H. Matano.
