The combinatorics of hyperplanes in Euclidian space has a simple random walk interpretation. This generates all kinds of shuffling schemes (Bidigare, Hanlon, Rockmore). Generalizations to walks on the chambers of a building and semigroups (Brown) illuminate calculations originating in library science.
