Abstract:

In quantum field theory, in an attempt to classify (not all) Conformal Field Theories, physicists came up with the Landau-Ginzburg model. In the process they noticed a beautiful relationship with certain Calabi-Yau manifolds. In my talk, I will describe some of the physical motivation, but mainly the constructions of these complete-intersection Calabi-Yau's which live embedded inside of weighted-projective space.

Only minimal knowledge of QFT, complex manifolds, and algebraic geometry will be assumed.
