Title: Lagrangian intersections recover cohomology
Speaker: Hiro Tanaka
Speaker Info: Northwestern University

Abstract:

This talk is meant to be accessible to anybody who knows what a differential form is. If you're high-brow, you can view this talk as a baby introduction to the Fukaya category. (I view it as a plug for studying symplectic geometry.) I'd like to illustrate Floer's cohomology theory for Lagrangian intersections, and outline how it recovers the Z/2Z cohomology of an arbitrary manifold. The guiding lights will be Morse theory, and the differential-topologist's definition of the Euler characteristic.
