Title: Metric Sociology
Speaker: Valentino Tosatti
Speaker Info: Northwestern University
Brief Description:
Special Note: annual undergraduate prize lecture and awards ceremony
Abstract:

Metric spaces (sets equipped with a distance function) are the simplest abstraction of Euclidean geometry, and can be found in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. After introducing them, I will discuss the following questions: how do we decide whether two metric spaces are very similar or very different? Can we introduce a distance function on the space of all metric spaces?
