After a brief summery of the previous results on existence of "special" nonkaehler and indefinite kaehler metrics on complex surfaces, I'll present more details on the indefinite analog of hypercomplex and hyperhermitian structures. We called such structures para-hyperhermitian and showed that they are more flexible than the hypercomplex ones. In particular most of the compact complex surfaces admit such structures and they often vary in infinite dimensional families. This is joint work with J.Davidov, O.Muskarov and M. Yotov.
