Abstract:

In this talk fairly informal talk, I will discuss the structure of the solution group for the wave equation on a manifold with conical singularities via an outlined parametrix construction. In particular, I will talk about the influence of the singular geometry on the symplectic objects, i.e., certain Lagrangian submanifolds of the cotangent bundle, carrying singularities of solutions as well as mechanism of diffraction occurring at the cone points. Time permitting, I would also like to talk about potential applications towards the trace of the wave group on a compact manifold with conical singularities and the sorts of things one might be able to "hear". Parts of this work (the two-dimensional case) are joint with Andrew Hassell and Luc Hillairet.
