Abstract:

The category C of representations of the fundamental group of a real orientable compact 3-fold is the heart of a 3CY category, in the sense that underpins Donaldson-Thomas theory, and so there should be a theory of DT invariants to be extracted by studying moduli spaces of such representations. I will explain what DT invariants, and refined DT invariants, are, and explain ongoing work with Vivek Shende on defining motivic DT invariants for 3-folds by providing orientation data for C, in the sense of Kontsevich and Soibelman.
