Abstract:

Invertible objects, as well as the Picard groups they form, have long played a central role in mathematics from number theory to algebraic geometry and beyond. I will talk about recent progress in homotopy-theoretic techniques that aid in determining Picard groups, as well as some fun examples this allows us to compute. This is based on joint work with Drew Heard and Akhil Mathew.
