Abstract:

The Modularity Theorem, previously known as the Taniyama- Shimura- Weil Conjecture, states that elliptic curve over rational field is modular. In this talk, our goal is to understand the statement of the theorem, i,e what does it mean for an elliptic curve to be modular? We will introduce modular curve, elliptic curve and modular functions and then state one version of the modularity theorem based on these definitions. We will also see the connections between the Fermat's Last Theorem and Modularity Theorem. If time permits, We will also introduce L-functions and talk about Hasse Weil Conjecture, which can be deduced from the theorem.
