Abstract:

Resolution of singularities means the solutions of a system of (characteristic-zero) polynomial equations can be parameterized by the points of a manifold. My goal is to convince you that you could have come up with the idea of the proof yourself - checking some of it might be difficult, but understanding the idea of the proof is not so bad. We'll get some geometric intuition, see some of the difficulties involved in the procedure, and connect it to a game you can play (and win) yourself.
