Abstract:
In this talk we will discuss the interesting connection between the classical motion of a particle in a 2d domain and the concentration properties of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on the domain. After covering necessary background we state the quantum ergodicity theorem: if the classical flow is ergodic then a subsequence of the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian tend to the uniform distribution as the eigenvalue tends towards infinity.
