I will give two different pictures of the non-commutative 2-torus, also called the irrational rotation algebra: using a universal picture on the one hand and a groupoid model on the other. I will then introduce a notion of non-commutative Poincaré duality in the language of KK-theory and give a new geometric proof, using groupoids, of the known result that the irrational rotation algebra is self-dual.
