Abstract:

In this talk I will explain the modern view on superrigidity theorem that derives from work of Bader and Furman. Using this method and some simple facts about subgroups of SO(n,1), one can take the data from the last lecture and use it to prove a superrigidity theorem that implies the arithmeticity theorem from the colloquium. If time permits, I will give a short version of the (by now standard) implication from superrigidity to arithmeticity.
