Prismatic cohomology is a cohomology theory for algebraic varieties over p-adically complete rings discovered in the last decade (jointly with Morrow and Scholze). In this talk, I will give an introduction to this notion with an emphasis on the applications in algebraic geometry, number theory, and algebraic topology that guided the theoretical developments.
