Abstract:

We show, for mean curvature flows of hypersurfaces in R^n, that if one of the tangent flows at a given space-time point consists of a closed smooth self-similar shrinker, then under an integrability assumption it is the unique tangent flow at that point i.e. the limit of the parabolic rescalings does not depend on the chosen sequence of rescalings. The central point is to get a decay estimate for a distance function from the shrinker using a 3-annulus type lemma. This is a special case of a result of Schulze, where no integrability assumption is needed.
