Abstract:

An epsilon-regularity phenomenon for a nonlinear elliptic equation says that if a solution to the equation is small enough with respect to a suitable norm, it behaves like a solution to a linear elliptic equation and in particular enjoys nice regularity properties. Unfortunately, while this type of result has a concise description, proofs in different contexts can vary wildly (if they exist at all). I hope to give a sketch in the case of stationary harmonic maps and highlight the core ideas of the proof (originally due to Fabrice Bethuel in the 90's).
