Abstract:

The Poisson sigma model is a topological field theory based on the data of a Poisson manifold which has been used by Kontsevich to solve the deformation quantization problem. It since has been studied in its own right as a tool of Poisson geometry. On the other hand, the AKSZ formalism is a general method of constructing classical field theories in the Batalin–Vilkovisky formalism which generalizes Chern–Simons theory. In this talk, following Cattaneo–Felder, we exhibit the Poisson sigma model as an example of the AKSZ construction.
